Australia’s International Cake show - Brisbane

Wow, what a trip!! If you haven’t visited the show, it’s well worth a trip. Not necesserily for the shopping (I feel like NZ has actually quite good options nowadays for cake tools/products and materials) but for the incredible talent and workshops!

I booked a days workshop with Dianos Iarovoi and we made a fondant unicorn cake topper. I didn’t book this because I wanted to learn how to make a unicorn, I booked it because I could apply these skills to an idea that I’ve been toying with for a long time. Making cake toppers and making them ‘keepsake’ style.

I went to the Boot camp up in Whangarei which is for registered cakers to get together, learn from each other, connect and well…talk about all things cake! Here I studied with Tracy from Designer cakes who also loves makin cake toppers and she describe them as ‘keepsakes’ which really stuck in my mind. Then when I visited the convention centre this year and walked around, viewed the displays and attended the mini workshops (along with Dianos) I saw many many different ways of creating fondant toppers and I got more and more obsessed with the idea!

Sedar Yener was a presenter that I visited regularly whilst visiting as I loved that way his brain worked when thinking about cake toppers and ways to put them together. Between all of these incredible people I decided to go for it and start making cake toppers that people could add to their own creations or ask me to incorporate in to one of my own!

You can check out which ones are available in my shop and I’m also taking custom orders for cake toppers! It’s such a fun way for me to get creative and make the things buzzing around in my brain!

You can visit my tutorials area where I have started to film some of these toppers and putting them up as tutorials
